DAZZLE THEM WITH FIRE

So if I decide we are having spaghetti for dinner because I don’t feel like making a designer dinner (and I am allowed to once and a while) I try to make sure the dessert is exciting. Again this is so easy but people think you are a master chef if you can put this together. Please note it is important that you have an open area so everyone can see what you are up to because what’s the use making a flambé if no one can se it?

OH YEA! Bananas Foster!!

Just use your heads people don’t hurt your selves and make sure you know how to react to a fire situation in the kitchen. I know you all have fire extinguishers right?? me either but …I do have salt and lots of it, See the salt pig in the back? Salt will extinguish a flame so just be smart don’t flambé next to a roll of paper towels or your dish cloth!
All you need for this is a few simple things and most have this in the house already. I added a little something extra because I like crunch in pretty much anything.

What do you do with old bananas? Make Bananas Foster. It is actually really simple and if you are like me it is fun and exciting.

SO, lets get to it!

What you need:
2 or 3 bananas
3 heaping tbls brown sugar (light or dark)
3 tbls rum or brandy or both
2 tbls butter
2 tbls water
1 tsp cinnamon

How to do it:
In a large pan melt butter and brown sugar.
Once it is melted add the water (this breaks down the sugar)

slice the bananas at least a 1/4 inch so they don’t mush
and add them to the pan.
sprinkle with 1/2 of the cinnamon
This is very quick you don’t want the bananas to cook too long, just get hot.
gently mix them into the butter/sugar
and heat for 1 to 2 minutes spooning the hot
butter/sugar over them.

CAREFULLY add the rum (if the pan is small it might ignite right away so use caution)
To ignite slowly pull pan off burner and tip it very slightly toward the flame and it will catch.
let the flame burn, it will burn out the alcohol in about a minute. Thats it!!
spoon them over vanilla ice cream  and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon.
My twist is to add a tortilla for the crunch or add
some walnuts. I take a flour tortilla brush it with butter,
sprinkle with cinnamon & brown sugar and bake at 375
until golden. break it apart and put it in with the dessert
SO DELICIOUS!

Roxy has a new outfit so I’ll post it later for all the fashion lovers!!

Nice work! That was the scariest part of culinary school for me. I would try to hide whenever they asked for someone to light something up in the pan haha.

Nice shot of the flaming food. Any time I try, the flames just don’t show. The desert looks v tasty. Well done.
